Anycia Symone Edwards was born on August 19, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia, and was raised on the city’s South Side. Her childhood involved living in various parts of metro Atlanta and a year in New Orleans, contributing to a diverse upbringing. Early creative influences included artists like Usher, with whom she listened regularly with her mother. She developed a confident persona, which is now a distinctive element of her musical identity. Before pursuing music full-time, Anycia explored barbering at beauty school, worked as a daycare teacher, and held a position as a restaurant hostess.
Anycia commenced her professional rapping career in 2022 by releasing her debut single, “Kimora Lee.” Her song “BRB” gained significant online recognition in the summer of 2023, particularly after producer jetsonmade reposted its music video, leading to a frequent collaboration. A snippet of her song “So What,” released in June 2023, also went viral, drawing attention from figures such as Kevin Durant and Drake. This period marked a turning point in her career, setting the stage for broader recognition. In November 2023, she released her debut extended play, _Extra_, and subsequently toured with rapper Veeze on his Ganger Tour.
Her career progression continued with the release of “Back Outside” in January 2024, featuring Latto, which further expanded her audience. She was also featured on Flo Milli’s March 2024 album _Fine Ho, Stay_ on the track “New Me.” Anycia’s second studio album, _Princess Pop That_, was released on April 26, 2024, preceded by the single “Bad Weather.” The album was critically noted for its more structured approach compared to earlier works. As of 2024, Anycia operates independently, distributing her music through UnitedMasters. She is also slated to perform as a guest artist alongside Flo on Kehlani’s Crash World Tour in late 2024. Her upcoming album, _Grady Baby_, is being released as part of DJ Drama’s _Gangsta Grillz_ series and is anticipated to feature an “old Atlanta” aesthetic, drawing inspiration from her family’s photo albums and ’00s fashion.
