Austin Sanders, known professionally as ASTN, began his musical journey in Panama City, Florida, relocating to Los Angeles later in his career. His early exposure to music started with a drum set, and his family’s frequent moves across states like Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, and Georgia provided diverse influences. He was introduced to country and rock music in his youth, later expanding his tastes to include hip-hop artists like Bryson Tiller and Musiq Soulchild through his older brother. This diverse background, coupled with formal jazz studies in college, helped shape his unique musical style.
ASTN started writing and singing as a sophomore in college, propelled by a personal experience with heartbreak. His early projects combined the warmth of R&B with pop and trap sounds. In December 2017, he released ‘Tell Your Friends,’ which featured the track ‘Love No More.’ He further developed his songwriting skills with ‘IT’S NOT THAT SERIOUS’ in June of an unspecified year, and gained recognition for his ‘what if this song was rnb?’ remix series on social media. A pivotal moment in his career occurred in November 2021 when his TikTok remix of Billie Eilish’s ‘Happier Than Ever’ garnered 56.6 million views in two months, leading to a full-length cover release and a subsequent signing with Warner Records.
His Warner Records debut, the five-track EP ‘You’re Almost There,’ released after joining the label, showcased his introspective songwriting and emotional depth. Tracks like ‘Gradually,’ ‘Real,’ and ‘You’re Almost There’ explored themes of heartbreak, bitterness, and resilience, characterized by soaring vocal runs and refined production. This project solidified his reputation for creating music that balances optimism with vulnerability, reinforcing his message of perseverance and finding strength through adversity. Over the years he has released many singles and albums, such as ‘Where Do We Go From Here?’ (2023), and ‘Archive 001’ (2025).
