At The Gates

At The Gates, a pioneering force in melodic death metal, released their critically acclaimed album ‘Slaughter of the Soul’ in 1995, a landmark in the mid-1990s Swedish death metal scene that garnered international attention. Formed in late 1990 by former members of Grotesque, the band quickly established a strong underground presence. Their debut EP, ‘Gardens of Grief,’ was released in 1992 for Dolores Recordings, swiftly followed by their first full-length album, ‘The Red in the Sky Is Ours,’ in the same year. In 1993, At The Gates delivered ‘With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness,’ and saw guitarist Alf Svensson replaced by Martin Larsson.

The band achieved a significant breakthrough with their third album, ‘Terminal Spirit Disease,’ released in 1994. The success of ‘Slaughter of the Soul,’ issued through Earache Records, included the heavy rotation of its ‘Blinded by Fear’ music video on MTV in the United States, cementing their international appeal. Despite this acclaim, the band disbanded in 1996 following the departure of the Björler brothers. Lead singer Tomas Lindberg remained prolific during this period, contributing to various projects including Lock Up, The Great Deceiver, Disfear, and Skitsystem.
