AJ Lee & Blue Summit have spent recent years building a reputation as one of the most compelling acts in the California bluegrass scene. In 2022, the band reached a wider audience when they joined American folk band the Brothers Comatose on a cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon,” adding their own voice to a song long celebrated through renditions by artists like Cassandra Wilson. That same year, the group shared the main stage of the Topanga Banjo Fiddle Contest & Folk Festival in May, appearing alongside the band Water Tower as part of that tour.
Rooted in California, the band has grown within a West Coast bluegrass community that prizes close harmony, sharp picking, and songs that move easily between tradition and contemporary writing. Their appearance at Topanga placed them among respected peers in the folk and string-band world, while the “Harvest Moon” collaboration demonstrated a range that stretches well beyond conventional bluegrass repertoire.
As a performing group, AJ Lee & Blue Summit continue to develop their craft through live shows and collaborations with fellow artists across the folk, bluegrass, and Americana landscape. Their trajectory, from the California bluegrass circuit to shared festival stages and recorded collaborations, marks them as a band with both roots and momentum, and one that keeps expanding what audiences expect from a modern string band.
