Atoms For Peace

Atoms for Peace brought together diverse musical talents, creating a unique sound that blends electronic rock with experimental elements. After forming in 2009, Atoms for Peace brought together a formidable collective of musicians, including Thom Yorke of Radiohead (vocals, guitar, piano), Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers (bass), acclaimed producer Nigel Godrich (keyboards, synthesizers, guitars), Joey Waronker (drums) known for his work with Beck and R.E.M., and Mauro Refosco (percussion) from Forro in the Dark. The group’s genesis arose from Yorke’s desire to perform songs from his 2006 solo album, ‘The Eraser,’ using acoustic instruments, with Godrich envisioning the electronic beats recreated through Latin percussion. The band embarked on a debut US tour in early 2010, including a notable performance at Coachella, before officially adopting the name Atoms for Peace.

Beyond group performances, members continued their impactful individual contributions, often collaborating with their Atoms for Peace bandmates. In 2019, Flea contributed to Thom Yorke’s song ‘Daily Battles’ for the Oscar-nominated film ‘Motherless Brooklyn,’ while Joey Waronker played drums on a track from Yorke’s 2019 album ‘Anima.’ Further extending their creative partnerships, Waronker and Refosco later formed a new group, Jomoro, releasing their debut album ‘Blue Marble Sky’ in June 2021, demonstrating the ongoing and innovative musical relationships forged within Atoms for Peace.
