Manners McDade announced a new worldwide publishing deal with the Texas-based band Balmorhea, expressing confidence in the partnership to help represent their music.
Balmorhea released their album 'Pendant World' on Deutsche Grammophon. The album was produced and engineered by 4x Grammy winner Jonathan Low and features artists like Sam Gendel and Clarice Jensen. The label also represented Balmorhea for their album 'The Wind' and other singles.
Balmorhea, an American instrumental duo formed in Austin, Texas in 2006 by Rob Lowe and Michael Muller, has consistently created music that has been described as stark, yet vibrant. Their sound blends elements of folk, classical, jazz, post-rock, Americana, and ambient music, resonating with a worldly sensibility. The band self-released their debut, self-titled album in April 2007, followed by “Rivers Arms” in February 2008. Their third album, “All is Wild, All is Silent” (2009), was released on Western Vinyl, marking a significant step in their career. The group, which has seen various musicians contribute over the years, has always maintained its core vision of creating reflective and evocative musical landscapes.
Over nearly two decades, Balmorhea has released a series of studio albums, including “Constellations” (2010) and “Stranger” (2012). After a five-year hiatus from studio releases by the original duo, they returned with “Clear Language” in 2017. More recently, they have engaged with Deutsche Grammophon, a renowned classical music label, releasing singles that culminated in albums like “The Wind” (2021) and “Pendant World” (2023). This association with Deutsche Grammophon, a label known for international classical legends, highlights their ability to transcend traditional genre classifications.
Balmorhea’s music has been featured in various media, expanding their reach and impact. Their song “Bowsprit” from “Constellations” was used as the opening theme for the SundanceTV series “Rectify,” and “Remembrance” from “All Is Wild, All Is Silent” appeared in the 2015 Turkish film “Delibal.” The 2018 single “Clouds” was composed for the French film “Un homme pressé,” which also featured “Remembrance.” They have toured extensively across the US and Europe, sharing stages with notable artists such as Tortoise, Fleet Foxes, and Sharon Van Etten. The band has also performed at major music festivals like Austin City Limits Music Festival and SXSW, and their work has been reviewed by publications including The New Yorker, Pitchfork, and NPR.
