About

Mark Duane Morton, born on November 25, 1972, in Williamsburg, Virginia, is an American musician recognized as the lead guitarist and a founding member of the heavy metal band Lamb of God. His career began in 1989 and he has since been a consistent force in the music industry. Before Lamb of God, he was active with the band Burn the Priest, contributing to their demo tape in 1995 and several split releases in 1997 and 1998, culminating in their self-titled album in 1999. Morton’s guitar work has shaped the sound of Lamb of God across numerous albums, earning him recognition for his heavy riffs and instrumental versatility.

In December 2018, Morton announced his debut solo album, “Anesthetic,” released on March 1, 2019, through Spinefarm Records. This project featured collaborations with a diverse array of artists, including Randy Blythe and Alissa White-Gluz on the single “The Truth Is Dead,” and a posthumous collaboration with Chester Bennington on “Cross Off.” He followed this with the EP “Ether” in 2020. Morton’s recent solo work, including the upcoming album “Without The Pain” scheduled for April 11, showcases his exploration into Southern rock and Americana, featuring collaborations with artists like Jason Isbell, Charlie Starr, Grace Bowers, and Jaren Johnston. This solo endeavor demonstrates a broader musical taste beyond his heavy metal roots.

Beyond his musical releases, Morton also authored a memoir, “Desolation: A Heavy Metal Memoir,” which was released on June 25, 2024. This book provides insights into his personal and professional challenges, addressing topics such as addiction, grief, and experiences within the music industry. Throughout his career, Morton has maintained his role with Lamb of God, contributing to their albums such as “New American Gospel” (2000), “As the Palaces Burn” (2003), “Ashes of the Wake” (2004), “Sacrament” (2006), “Wrath” (2009), “Resolution” (2012), “VII: Sturm und Drang” (2015), “Lamb of God” (2020), and “Omens” (2022). His work with major labels like Epic Records, Nuclear Blast, Roadrunner Records, Spinefarm, and Rise Records highlights his established presence in the music world.
