Beach Bunny originated in Chicago, Illinois, in 2015 as the solo project of guitarist and vocalist Lili Trifilio. Her initial recordings, starting with “6 Weeks” in 2015, led to the release of her first EP, “Animalism,” that same year, followed by “Pool Party” in 2016. In 2017, after releasing her third EP, “Crybaby,” the project expanded into a full four-piece band. This transition marked a key development, broadening the scope of Beach Bunny’s musical output and performance capabilities. The band gained significant traction when their 2018 song “Prom Queen” achieved viral status on TikTok in late 2019, bringing their music to a global audience.
Following their growing online presence, Beach Bunny signed with Mom + Pop Music on October 31, 2019. This partnership led to the release of their debut full-length album, “Honeymoon,” on February 14, 2020. The album was produced by Joe Reinhart at Electrical Audio and received widespread critical acclaim, earning spots on “Best Albums of 2020” lists from The New York Times and Rolling Stone. A second song from the album, “Cloud 9,” also went viral on TikTok in 2021, featuring in two million videos. The band continued their output with the EP “Blame Game” in 2021 and their sophomore album, “Emotional Creature,” released on July 22, 2022.
In June 2024, Beach Bunny released “Vertigo,” their first new music in nearly two years and as a three-piece group following the departure of lead guitarist Matt Henkels in 2022. The band is set to release their third studio album, “Tunnel Vision,” on April 25, 2025. Throughout their career, Beach Bunny has consistently evolved, maintaining their connection with fans through relatable lyrics and a distinctive indie sound, while adapting to changes in both their lineup and the music industry.
