Jackson Stell, born August 31, 1990, in Lancaster, Massachusetts, began his musical journey at 14 as a hip-hop beat producer under the alias J Beatz. He graduated from Northeastern University and then worked as a composer for an advertising agency. Following a trip to Big Sur, California, Stell shifted his focus to electronic music, adopting the moniker Big Wild. This change marked a turning point in his career, with his new sound drawing influences from natural landscapes.
Big Wild’s career progression saw a rapid rise in the electronic music scene. In April 2015, he released the track “Aftergold” through Foreign Family Collective, which quickly topped the Spotify Global Viral Chart. This was followed by his debut EP, “Invincible,” in February 2017, also released on Foreign Family Collective. A significant achievement came in February 2019 with the release of his debut album, “Superdream,” on Counter Records. For this album, Stell took on primary roles as lyricist, singer, and songwriter, marking a new phase in his artistic expression. He continued to release new music, including his second album, “The Efferusphere,” in September 2022, and announced a third album, “Wild Child,” for August 2025.
As a performer, Big Wild is recognized for his dynamic live shows, where he integrates multiple instruments such as drum pads, synthesizers, keyboards, and live vocals. He embarked on a headlining tour across the US, Europe, and the UK in conjunction with the “Superdream” album release, presenting a new live show experience. Stell has also openly discussed his personal experiences, including a thyroid cancer diagnosis in late September 2013, which he announced he had recovered from. This experience influenced his music, notably the song “Maker” on the “Superdream” album, where he aimed to infuse his struggles with a positive outlook.
