Andrew Charles Grammer was born on December 3, 1983, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Chester, New York, and developed an early interest in music, learning to play the trumpet, guitar, and piano. He began songwriting at the age of 15. After attending Binghamton University, he returned to Los Angeles and graduated from California State University, Northridge, in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry Studies. His musical career began as a busker on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, where he was discovered and subsequently signed with S-Curve Records in April 2010.
Grammer’s debut album, “Andy Grammer,” was released in 2011, featuring singles “Keep Your Head Up” and “Fine by Me.” The music video for “Keep Your Head Up,” featuring actor Rainn Wilson, won MTV’s “O Music Awards” for most innovative video in 2011. He was recognized as an “Artist to Watch” by Billboard magazine in January 2011. His second album, “Magazines or Novels,” released in 2014, contained “Honey, I’m Good,” which became his most commercially successful song, reaching number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning triple-platinum certification from the RIAA. This single was among the top ten best-selling songs of 2015 according to Nielsen SoundScan. He also released the gold-certified single “Good to Be Alive (Hallelujah)” from the same album.
Throughout his career, Grammer has released a total of four studio albums, with “Naive” in 2019 being his most recent prior to upcoming releases. He has toured extensively, opening for artists like Natasha Bedingfield and Colbie Caillat. Beyond his musical achievements, Grammer has been involved in philanthropic efforts, recognized by organizations like Claire’s Place Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis, and supporting entities such as Feeding America and The V Foundation. He participated in “Dancing with the Stars” in 2015, finishing in 7th place, and performed the National Anthem at the 2015 World Series and the 2016 AFC Championship Game.
