Boombox Cartel is an innovative DJ act based in Los Angeles, formed by producer Americo Garcia and writing partner Jorge Medina. The duo first crossed paths in high school in Monterrey, Mexico, and later pursued their passion for music at McNally Smith College of Music in Minnesota. Their journey took a significant turn when they relocated to Los Angeles, where they were inspired by the city’s vibrant multicultural scene, leading to the self-release of their breakout track, “B2U,” in 2015. This track quickly caught the attention of industry giants like Skrillex, Diplo, and Martin Garrix, establishing Boombox Cartel as a formidable force in the electronic music landscape.
In 2016, Boombox Cartel signed with Diplo’s renowned label, Mad Decent, which marked a pivotal moment in their career. Their debut EP, “Cartel,” released in April 2017, showcased their refined production skills and unique sound, further solidifying their reputation in the dance music community. The EP received widespread acclaim and was featured in DJ sets around the world, demonstrating their ability to resonate with audiences and fellow artists alike.
Following the success of their EP, Americo embarked on a global tour, the Rogue Tour, which included sold-out shows and appearances at major festivals such as Lollapalooza and Electric Daisy Carnival. His performances are characterized by a commitment to uniting diverse audiences through music, and his growing influence in the dance music realm is evident through his accolades and recognition.
Today, Boombox Cartel continues to push musical boundaries with genre-blending releases on labels like OWSLA and Spinnin’. They have been featured in prominent publications such as Billboard and DJ MAG, and Americo has launched the Cartel Sound event series to spotlight emerging artists. With plans for a clothing brand and a series of multi-continental tours, Boombox Cartel is poised for even greater success in the coming years.
