Bria Skonberg

Bria Skonberg is a distinguished Canadian jazz musician, trumpeter, and vocalist whose career has made significant waves in the jazz community. After beginning her musical journey with piano lessons in elementary school, she transitioned to the trumpet during her teenage years. Skonberg’s early performances with The 51st Eight and her leadership of the all-female Mighty Aphrodite Jazz Band during her high school and college years laid a strong foundation for her future endeavors in jazz.

In 2010, Skonberg moved to New York City, where she quickly established herself as a prominent figure in the jazz scene. She co-founded the New York Hot Jazz Festival, showcasing her commitment to preserving and promoting traditional jazz. As the leader of Bria’s Hot Five, she drew inspiration from jazz legends like Louis Armstrong, further solidifying her reputation as a talented bandleader. Her collaborations with renowned artists such as Bucky Pizzarelli and Wycliffe Gordon have enriched her musical repertoire and expanded her influence.
