With his films approaching $20 billion at the global box office as of April 2026, Brian Tyler ranks among the top 10 highest-grossing film composers of all time. His recent slate includes scoring The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, along with the fifth and sixth installments of the Scream franchise, extending a 26-year career at the height of the industry.
Born May 8, 1972, and raised in Orange County, California, Tyler grew up surrounded by creative influence: his grandfather was art director Walter H. Tyler and his pianist grandmother was an early musical inspiration. He taught himself dozens of instruments, from piano, drums, and guitar to the charango and bouzouki, before earning a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a master’s from Harvard University.
His credits span seven Fast & Furious films, the Rambo and Final Destination franchises, The Expendables trilogy, Crazy Rich Asians, and Marvel Cinematic Universe scores for Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Avengers: Age of Ultron with Danny Elfman. He also arranged the Universal Pictures logo fanfare for the studio’s 100th anniversary and composed the 2013–2016 Marvel Studios logo.
Named IFMCA 2014 Composer of the Year, Tyler has earned three Emmy nominations, a gold record for Last Call, and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences membership. He composed themes for ESPN’s NFL Sunday Countdown, Formula One, and the Esports World Cup, scored Yellowstone, 1883, and 1923 with Breton Vivian, and performs electronic music as Are We Dreaming.
