Carl Cox

Carl Cox was recognized as the first number one DJ in DJ Magazine’s inaugural Top 100 poll in 1997, marking a pivotal moment in his career as a global pioneer of electronic music. Throughout the 1980s, Cox established himself as a prominent DJ in the electronica industry, gaining recognition as a founder of the sound and a key figure in the emerging British rave scene, notably playing at the first night of Danny Rampling’s Shoom in 1987. His innovative three-deck mixing technique set him apart, paving the way for his debut single, ‘I Want You (Forever),’ released on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label in the early 1990s. From 1998 to 1999, he served as a global resident DJ for BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix and founded his influential record label, Intec Records, in 1998.

Demonstrating his versatility, Cox collaborated on a remix of Yothu Yindi’s ‘Treaty’ in 2019. Beyond music, he founded Carl Cox Motorsport in New Zealand in 2013, participating in motorcycle and sidecar racing, and published his acclaimed autobiography, ‘Oh Yes, Oh Yes!’, in 2021. In 2023, Carl Cox Motorsport expanded its reach by entering the prestigious Extreme E championship, further cementing Cox’s status as a multifaceted talent.
