Chuck Mangione

Chuck Mangione is a Grammy Award-winning flugelhorn player, trumpeter, and composer known for his jazz-pop fusion style and instrumental hits. After gaining prominence as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in the 1960s, Grammy Award-winning flugelhorn player, trumpeter, and composer Chuck Mangione went on to define a distinctive jazz-pop fusion style, achieving significant commercial and critical success. Early in his career, he co-led The Jazz Brothers with Gap Mangione, and served as the director of the Eastman jazz ensemble from 1968 to 1972. A pivotal moment arrived in 1970 with the recording of his album Friends and Love, featuring the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

His compositions also reached a global audience through the Olympic Games, with ‘Chase the Clouds Away’ adopted for the 1976 Summer Olympics and ‘Give It All You Got’ serving as the theme for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Beyond his groundbreaking musical career, Mangione expanded into television, making appearances in popular shows such as Magnum, P.I. and Sharon, Lois & Bram’s Elephant Show. Beginning in 1997, he embraced a recurring role as a fictionalized version of himself on the animated television series King of the Hill, notably as a celebrity spokesman for ‘Mega Lo Mart.’ This comedic portrayal resonated widely, leading to the track ‘Peggy Hill’ on his 2000 album, Everything For Love, released as a tribute to the series.

In the same year, Mangione demonstrated his philanthropic commitment by raising over $50,000 for St. John’s Nursing Home through ticket sales from a special concert event. Chuck Mangione officially retired from his performing career in 2015, leaving behind an indelible legacy in music. His enduring influence and extensive musical catalog, including all copyrights, were notably acquired by Primary Wave in 2024, ensuring his work continues to reach new generations of listeners and creatives.
