Clay Street Unit has built a reputation the old-fashioned way: on stage, night after night, sharpening a sound that sits at the crossroads of roots-driven songcraft and wide-open improvisation. That live-first identity carried the group into a milestone year in 2025, when they signed with Leo33, the Nashville-based label founded in April 2023 by former Universal Music Group Nashville executives Katie Dean and Rachel Fontenot. Joining a roster that includes Zach Top, Jenna Paulette, and Ashland Craft placed the band alongside one of independent country and Americana’s most closely watched rosters.
The label signing came on the heels of growing festival demand. In 2026, Clay Street Unit was announced among the performers at SweetWater 420 Fest, sharing a bill with Umphrey’s McGee, Thievery Corporation, Chromeo, and Watchhouse — a booking that signals the band’s reach well beyond any single genre lane.
What distinguishes the group is its refusal to sit still. Their sets move between honky-tonk grit, jam-scene elasticity, and heartfelt songwriting, which is exactly the kind of range festival programmers and talent buyers prize. With Leo33’s backing and a rapidly expanding touring footprint, Clay Street Unit enters this next chapter with momentum earned entirely on merit — one show, one crowd, one song at a time.
