Daisy the Great was formed in 2016 by Kelley Dugan and Mina Walker, who met while studying as acting majors at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Dugan, a New York native, and Walker, from New Orleans, collaborated to create their distinctive sound, characterized by harmony-laden folk-pop and indie rock ballads. The band released their first EP, “I’ve Got a Few Friends & I Wish They Were Mine,” in 2018, followed by their debut album, “I’m Not Getting Any Taller,” in January 2019. Their early work established their presence in the indie music scene.
A significant milestone in their career came with their 2017 debut single, “The Record Player Song.” This track gained wider recognition when a remix, simply titled “Record Player,” was released in August 2021, featuring additional verses and production by the band AJR. This collaboration propelled the song to number 6 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart and accumulated over 270 million views on TikTok, significantly increasing their audience. The band continued their prolific output with the EP “Soft Songs” in 2020 and their second album, “All You Need Is Time,” in 2022.
Daisy the Great has consistently expanded its musical portfolio and performance reach. In 2024, they released a third EP, “Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti,” which featured co-creation with Grammy-winning producer Tony Visconti. This was followed by their third album, “The Rubber Teeth Talk,” released in 2025. They have toured with and opened for several notable artists, demonstrating their growing influence and reach within the alternative music landscape.
