About

Terrell Anthony Cox, professionally known as Cochise, was born on May 29, 1998, in Palm Beach, Florida, and grew up in Palm Bay. Influenced by his Jamaican heritage, he developed an early appreciation for reggae and dancehall music. While attending Heritage High School, Cox initially pursued a football career but ultimately chose to focus on music due to a desire for greater creative control. His musical journey began in late 2015 when he started uploading tracks to SoundCloud under the moniker Yung Cochise, often collaborating with his cousin and producer, Lousho. His early work gained traction with songs like “Let a Nigga Smash” in late 2017.

His career saw significant progression between 2018 and 2019, with the self-release of his debut mixtape, “Pulp,” on May 3, 2018, featuring production from Hella Sketchy, Lousho, and VashVash. He continued to release music exclusively on SoundCloud, and in August 2019, he dropped the collaborative EP “Hijack” with Lousho. The single “Red Head,” released in late 2019, contributed to his growing online presence, foreshadowing his breakthrough success with “Hatchback” in 2020. This period marked a crucial turning point, establishing his distinctive style and attracting a dedicated fanbase.

The early 2020s brought widespread recognition for Cochise. Following the viral success of “Hatchback” and “Red Head” on TikTok, he signed with Columbia Records. In May 2021, he released his debut studio album, “Benbow Crescent,” a project that paid homage to his Jamaican roots and featured 18 tracks without guest artists. The same month, his collaboration with $not on “Tell Em” propelled him to mainstream success, reaching number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieving 2x Platinum certification. Cochise continued this momentum with “Pocket Rocket” in August 2021, another track that gained significant popularity on TikTok. His artistic evolution continued with subsequent releases like “The Inspection” in 2022 and “Why Always Me?” in 2024, consistently demonstrating his ability to blend trap, dancehall, and cloud rap influences into a unique sound.
