About

Susan Brice, known professionally as Coco Star, was born on March 16, 1971, in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. She developed an early interest in music, aiming for a number one hit record from a young age. Her foundational musical education included learning the cello and various recorders, alongside some piano. She began writing and performing her own songs at age 12 and recorded her first track at 15. Academically, Brice pursued a BA Hons degree in fashion and textiles from the University of the West of England, Bristol, preceded by an art foundation course and a national diploma in art and design.

While at university, Coco Star began establishing her musical career through collaborations with artists such as Jody Wisternoff, Massive Attack, and Tricky. She refined her live performance skills and songwriting, leading to underground hits like “One By One” and “Always on my Mind.” In 1994, Universal MCA Music Publishing signed Brice for a development deal. During this period, she worked with Paul Connolly and received vocal coaching from Whitney Houston’s vocal coach. She also engaged in dance tuition at Pineapple Dance Studios and collaborated with Rob Davis, co-writer of “I Need a Miracle.”

In 1997, Coco Star’s track “I Need a Miracle” entered the UK charts at No. 39 following its live debut in Ibiza. This song later became the vocal component of “Toca’s Miracle,” a mashup with Fragma’s “Toca Me,” released in April 2000. “Toca’s Miracle” became a number one hit in the UK, selling over 500,000 copies, and achieved chart success in 14 countries worldwide. While she appeared in the music video and album line-up, Coco Star was not a member of Fragma and maintained her solo artist status. She has also contributed significantly as a songwriter, with her works including “It Ain’t Enough” for Artful Dodger and “Driftaway,” covered by Kele Le Roc.
