Delerium originated in 1987 as a side project of the industrial music act Front Line Assembly, founded by Bill Leeb. Initially, Leeb collaborated with Michael Balch, and together they released early albums such as “Faces, Forms & Illusions.” After Balch’s departure, Rhys Fulber joined Leeb, marking a shift in the band’s musical direction. This period saw Delerium evolve from darker ambient sounds towards a more danceable style, integrating diverse musical elements and featuring guest vocalists.
A significant milestone in Delerium’s career was the release of their 1997 album “Karma.” This album included the track “Silence,” featuring Sarah McLachlan, which later became a worldwide hit. The song gained considerable radio airplay and charting success, reaching number three in the UK, number one in Ireland, number four in Belgium, and number five in Australia. Following Fulber’s temporary departure, Leeb continued the project with Chris Peterson, releasing “Poem” in 2000. Fulber later reunited with Leeb for albums like “Chimera” (2003) and “Nuages du Monde” (2006).
Delerium received two Juno Awards for Best Dance Recording: one in 1998 for “Euphoria (Rabbit in the Moon Mix)” and another in 2000 for “Silence,” highlighting their impact in the electronic music scene. Their discography spans numerous studio albums, EPs, and singles, consistently featuring a range of guest vocalists including Kristy Thirsk, Leigh Nash, and Lisa Gerrard. Over the decades, Delerium has maintained a presence through new releases like “Music Box Opera” (2012), “Mythologie” (2016), and “Signs” (2023), as well as various remixes and compilations.
