Dent May is a musician and songwriter specializing in psychedelic pop and indie rock, recognized for his songwriting craft and consistent musical output. After gaining initial recognition with his 2009 debut album, ‘The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele,’ released by Animal Collective’s label, Paw Tracks, Dent May established himself as a distinctive musician known for crafting pop songs, often featuring the ukulele. His professional music career began in 2007 with the self-released demo album, ‘A Brush With Velvet,’ laying the groundwork for his unique blend of psychedelic pop, synthpop, indie rock, and new wave. His early work also included being a member of the power pop group The Rockwells.
A significant career milestone occurred in 2011 when Animal Collective specifically selected him to perform at the prestigious All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival, further solidifying his presence within the independent music scene. May continued his independent artistic approach with subsequent releases on Paw Tracks, including the albums ‘Do Things’ (2012) and ‘Warm Blanket’ (2013), showcasing his consistent musical output and evolving songwriting craft. Following these successes, May relocated to Los Angeles, a move that coincided with his signing to Carpark Records.
