About

Foxing originated in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2011, formed by bassist Josh Coll, drummer Jon Hellwig, and guitarist Matthew Piva. The band underwent initial lineup changes before solidifying with Coll, Hellwig, vocalist Conor Murphy, and guitarists Ricky Sampson and Eric Hudson by 2013. Their debut album, “The Albatross,” released in November 2013 through Count Your Lucky Stars Records, established their style blending emo, post-rock, and indie rock elements. Following its release, Foxing embarked on extensive touring, securing opening slots for notable bands like The Hotelier and Modern Baseball. This period of consistent touring and exposure significantly contributed to their growing presence within the independent music scene, allowing them to refine their sound and performance capabilities.

The band’s career progressed with a signing to Triple Crown Records in 2014, which re-released a remastered version of “The Albatross.” Their second album, “Dealer,” released in 2015, further showcased their development, reaching number three on the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart. A notable turning point occurred in 2018 with the release of “Nearer My God,” produced by Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie. This album marked a shift towards a more anthemic, festival-sized indie-rock sound, expanding their artistic scope. Through consistent album releases, including “Draw Down the Moon” in 2021 and their self-titled album in 2024, Foxing continued to explore and evolve their musical identity. In 2025, after 14 years, the band announced an indefinite hiatus, concluding with final performances in Chicago and St. Louis, emphasizing a period of reflection after years of touring and creative output.

Throughout their career, Foxing has been recognized for their distinct sound and contributions to the indie and emo genres. They made festival appearances at events such as Shaky Knees, Bunbury, Wrecking Ball, and Pygmalion, showcasing their music to broader audiences. The band’s dynamic songwriting and live performances fostered a dedicated fanbase. Key members like Conor Murphy, Jon Hellwig, and Eric Hudson have been central to the band’s creative and touring efforts, steering Foxing through various musical phases and sustaining their presence in the alternative music landscape.
