Dilshad Nahar Kona was born on April 15, 1983, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She began her musical journey by studying Nazrul Geeti at the Nazrul Academy. Early in her career, from 2003 to 2006, Kona was a member of the female band Angels Four, formed by S.I. Tutul and Shopon, alongside Nafisa, Rumana, and Tisha. Following the disbandment of Angels Four, she initiated her solo career in 2006 with the release of her first album, “Jamitik Bhalobasha.”
Kona continued to establish her presence in the music industry with subsequent album releases, including “Fuad featuring Kona” in 2008, showcasing a collaboration with Fuad al Muqtadir. Her 2011 album, “Simply Kona,” featured compositions by both Sri Lankan music director Iraj Weeraratne and Bangladeshi musicians Bappa Mazumdar and Fuad. Her career also spans voice-over work for television commercials in Bangladesh. A notable milestone was her involvement as one of the seven singers for the official song of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20.
Her contributions to film music have been significant, with numerous playback singing credits. In 2022, Kona received the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her song “Tui Ki Amar Hobi Re” from the film “Bishwoshundori.” This award recognized her vocal performance in the 2020 film. Her work demonstrates a consistent output in both studio albums and film soundtracks, often collaborating with other prominent artists in the region.
