Domo Genesis was a known member of the Los Angeles hip hop collective Odd Future, an association that propelled his early career and exposed him to a wider audience. He joined in mid-2009 and actively participated in various group projects and tours.
Dominique Marquis Cole, known professionally as Domo Genesis, was born on March 9, 1991, in Inglewood, California. His musical journey began in mid-2009 when he joined Odd Future, leveraging his friendship with Tyler, the Creator. Domo Genesis quickly made his mark with his debut mixtape, “Rolling Papers,” released on August 30, 2010. This project featured production predominantly from fellow Odd Future members Tyler, the Creator, Left Brain, and Syd tha Kyd, setting the foundation for his distinct lyrical style.
His career progression saw significant development with subsequent releases and collaborations. In 2011, he released his second mixtape, “Under the Influence,” which critics noted as a substantial improvement, highlighting its focused style. A notable collaboration occurred in February 2012 with Wiz Khalifa on the track “Ground Up.” The year 2012 also marked his television debut on Odd Future’s show, “Loiter Squad,” and the release of “No Idols,” a collaborative mixtape with Alchemist. This period showcased his versatility, moving from collective projects to more personal artistic statements. Further consolidating his presence, his debut album, “Genesis,” arrived in 2016, featuring artists like Anderson .Paak on tracks such as “Dapper.” He continued to release independent projects such as “Red Corolla” in 2017 and “Aren’t U Glad You’re U?” in 2018, the latter executive produced by Evidence.
Domo Genesis founded his own record label in 2018, demonstrating a move towards greater artistic independence and control over his work. This era also saw the expansion of the “Facade Records” EP into a supergroup collaboration with production duo Mike & Keys, resulting in two EPs, “Just in Case” and “Just in Case 2,” in 2020. In 2021, he appeared on Tyler, the Creator’s album “Call Me If You Get Lost,” on the song “MANIFESTO.” His recent work includes the Evidence-produced project “Intros, Outros & Interludes” in 2022, and the re-release of earlier mixtapes like “No Idols” and “Red Corolla” to streaming platforms in 2023. These efforts highlight his sustained artistic output and continued relevance within the hip-hop scene.
