About

Dumpstaphunk emerged from New Orleans in 2003, formed by Ivan Neville (vocals/keyboards), Ian Neville (guitar), Tony Hall (bass/guitar/vocals), and original members including Nick Daniels (bass/vocals) and Raymond Weber (drums). The band quickly established itself within the New Orleans music scene, building on the Neville family’s musical legacy. Their distinctive sound, characterized by thick grooves and intricate musicianship, draws from funk, jazz, soul, blues, gospel, and rock traditions.

Over the years, Dumpstaphunk has maintained a consistent presence at major music festivals, including multiple appearances at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo, Voodoo Experience, and the Hangout Festival. The band’s studio albums include “Listen Hear” (2007), “Everybody Want Sum” (2010), “Dirty Word” (2013), and “Where Do We Go From Here” (2021). “Dirty Word” notably featured collaborations with artists such as Trombone Shorty, Ani DiFranco, and Flea. The lineup has seen some changes, with Alex Wasily (trombone), Ashlin Parker (trumpet), Deven Trusclair (drums), John Michael Bradford (trumpet), Rebecca Todd (vocals), and Ari Teitel (guitar) joining over time. Founding bassist Nick Daniels III passed away in April 2024, but the band continues to perform.

Dumpstaphunk’s music has been critically recognized, being voted “New Orleans’ Best Funk Band” by OffBeat Magazine and Gambit Weekly in 2014. They have opened for prominent acts such as The Rolling Stones and Dave Matthews Band, performing in venues like Madison Square Garden. Their commitment to preserving and evolving New Orleans funk has cemented their reputation as a significant musical institution.
