Tanner Elle Schneider, professionally known as Elle King, was born on July 3, 1989, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are comedian Rob Schneider and model London King. After her parents divorced, she was raised in Ohio by her mother and stepfather. Her musical journey began at age nine after receiving an album by the all-female hard-rock band The Donnas, which inspired her to pursue music. By age 13, King was playing guitar and immersing herself in a diverse range of artists including Otis Redding, Etta James, Hank Williams, and AC/DC. Her early exposure to country and bluegrass also led her to learn the banjo, an instrument she later integrated into her unique sound. She attended Buck’s Rock camp, participating in musicals, and later studied painting and film at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
King made her acting debut in 1999 in her father’s film, “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo.” Her music career gained momentum in 2012 with the release of “The Elle King EP” through RCA Records, with its lead track “Playing for Keeps” becoming the theme song for VH1’s “Mob Wives Chicago.” She gained widespread recognition in 2015 with her debut album, “Love Stuff,” featuring the hit single “Ex’s & Oh’s.” This song reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned her two Grammy nominations.
