About

Eric Hutchinson, born September 8, 1980, in Takoma Park, Maryland, established himself as a distinguished singer-songwriter through a career marked by relentless musical exploration and personal storytelling. His journey began after attending Emerson College in Boston, where he developed his craft. In 2005, Hutchinson signed with Madonna’s Maverick Records; however, the label’s closure led him to independently release his debut album, “Sounds Like This,” in 2007. The album garnered significant attention, notably from Perez Hilton, propelling it to number five on the iTunes Store and becoming the highest-charting album by an unsigned artist in iTunes history. Warner Bros. Records subsequently picked up the album, releasing it in May 2008. His single “Rock & Roll” achieved gold status in the U.S., New Zealand, and Norway, and notably reached number one in Australia in April 2009, also certified Platinum there.

Hutchinson continued to evolve his sound with subsequent album releases, each reflecting his growth as an artist and individual. In 2012, he released “Moving Up, Living Down” through Warner Bros. Records, featuring the single “Watching You Watch Him,” which debuted on “Grey’s Anatomy.” This period saw him described as a “bell tone of a crooner with a knack for writing a catchy hook.” His third album, “Pure Fiction,” released in 2014 via Kobalt Label Services, included “Tell the World,” which became the theme song for NBC’s “Growing Up Fisher” and was featured in the first Microsoft Windows 10 commercial. In 2016, Hutchinson self-produced “Easy Street,” an album he described as his most insightful and autobiographical work, featuring the power ballad “Anyone Who Knows Me.” This album marked a turning point in his approach to songwriting, becoming more deeply personal. He further diversified his discography with “Modern Happiness” (2018), released with his band The Believers, exploring folk-Americana, and “Before & After Life” (2019), a jazz-pop contemplation on fatherhood and life’s transitions. His 2020 album “Class of ’98” delved into 90s alt-rock nostalgia, followed by the more politically and socially conscious folk album “Sing Along!” in 2022.

Throughout his career, Hutchinson has maintained an extensive touring schedule, performing across the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, England, and Dubai. He has shared stages with notable artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Jason Mraz, OneRepublic, and Hanson. Beyond music, Hutchinson created “Songversations,” a music listening card game released by Abrams Books in 2017. His commitment to connecting with his fanbase is evident in his choice to meet fans after shows, valuing their personal stories and connections to his music. In 2023, he celebrated the 15th anniversary of “Sounds Like This” with a tour, and in 2024, he released “CLIFF NOTES – The Best of 2014-2024,” a compilation of his work from the past decade, demonstrating his continuous artistic development and refusal to be confined to a single genre.
