Erich Bergen was born on December 31, 1985, in New York City. He developed an early interest in performing, attending the Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Center in Loch Sheldrake, New York, for seven years. He then continued his theatrical education at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Bergen began his career with television appearances in popular shows such as “Gossip Girl” (2009–2010), “Desperate Housewives” (2011), “Person of Interest” (2012), and “Franklin & Bash” (2012). These early roles laid the foundation for his professional acting career.
A significant milestone in Bergen’s career occurred when he portrayed Bob Gaudio in the Las Vegas production of “Jersey Boys” in 2008. He reprised this role for over 1,000 performances on stage and later in Clint Eastwood’s 2014 feature film adaptation, bringing his portrayal to a wider audience. From 2014 to 2019, Bergen gained widespread recognition for his main role as Blake Moran, personal secretary to Tea Leoni’s Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord, in the CBS television series “Madam Secretary.” His work on the show spanned 120 episodes.
Beyond his screen work, Bergen has maintained a strong presence in theatre. He toured nationally with Roundabout Theatre Company’s “Anything Goes” as Billy Crocker in 2012-2013 and made his Broadway debut as Dr. Jim Pomatter in “Waitress” in 2018, returning to the role multiple times. He has also starred as Billy Flynn in “Chicago” on Broadway in 2022 and 2023. In 2020, Bergen pivoted to producing and directing, establishing 6W Entertainment, an entertainment and social impact-focused production company, and producing virtual events during the pandemic. He has also taken on recurring roles in shows like “Bull” (2021-2022) as ADA Robert Jones and “The Good Fight” (2022) as Steven Sheen.
