Eve 6 secured a recording contract with RCA while still in high school in 1996 and released their self-titled debut and "Horrorscope" through them.
Eve 6 formed in 1995 in Southern California, initially under the names Yakoo and then Eleventeen. The original lineup included Max Collins (bass, lead vocals), Jon Siebels (guitar, backing vocals), and Nick Meyers (drums). Their first performance took place at Eagle’s Coffee Pub in North Hollywood, Los Angeles. While still in high school, the band, then known as Eleventeen, secured a recording contract with RCA. After recording the unreleased “Eleventeen” EP, Nick Meyers departed and was replaced by Tony Fagenson. The band adopted the name Eve 6, a reference inspired by “The X-Files.” In 1998, Eve 6 released their self-titled debut album, achieving platinum status. The album featured hit singles “Inside Out,” which reached number one on the Modern Rock charts and appeared on MTV’s “Total Request Live,” and “Leech.” The song “Tongue Tied” from this album was included in the soundtrack for the video game “Test Drive 6.”
The band’s second album, “Horrorscope,” released in 2000, garnered gold certification and produced the top 40 hit “Here’s to the Night,” along with singles “Promise” and “On the Roof Again.” Eve 6 made appearances on national television programs including “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” Their music videos were regularly featured on MTV. In 2003, they released “It’s All in Your Head,” which included the top 10 Modern Rock hit “Think Twice.” Following this, the band and RCA Records parted ways. The demands of their rapid success led to exhaustion, and in 2004, Eve 6 announced an indefinite hiatus. The band reunited in 2007 for touring with a new lineup, subsequently welcoming back all three original members in early 2011. They signed with Fearless Records and released their fourth album, “Speak in Code,” in April 2012. This album featured the singles “Victoria” and “Curtain.”
More recently, Eve 6 released the EP “Grim Value” in 2021 and the full-length album “Hyper Relevisation” in 2022 through Velocity Records. In February 2021, they released “You Were Right,” a collaboration with Bass Drum of Death. Following drummer Tony Fagenson’s departure in 2018, Ben Hilzinger joined the band. In 2024, the band independently released their sixth album, “Dream Fist.” Max Collins, the band’s frontman, has also gained recognition for his activity on Eve 6’s official Twitter account, which media outlets have noted for its “internet comedy” and engagement with various public figures.
