Flatland Cavalry, an American country and Americana band, originated in Lubbock, Texas, formed by Cleto Cordero (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Jason Albers (drums, percussion) in 2012. The two had been college roommates in Midland and performed together before moving to Lubbock, where Jonathan Saenz (bass), Reid Dillon (electric guitar), and Laura Jane (violin) joined by 2014. The band gained early traction with a successful crowdfunding campaign, raising $5,000 in just eight days for their debut EP, “Come May,” released in May 2015. This was followed by their first full-length album, “Humble Folks,” released on April 1, 2016. This album achieved commercial success, peaking at number 17 on the Billboard Americana/Folk albums chart and number 38 on the Top Country Albums chart.
In July 2018, Laura Jane departed and was replaced by Wesley Hall (fiddle), completing the current core lineup which also includes Adam Gallegos (piano, organ, keys, mandolin, banjo). In 2019, the band released their second studio album, “Homeland Insecurity,” which was praised for its developed songwriting and distinctive sound. Flatland Cavalry continued to release new music, including “Welcome to Countryland” in 2021 and the EP “Songs To Keep You Warm” in 2022. Their career progression saw them sign with Interscope Records for their fourth studio album, “Wandering Star,” released on October 27, 2023. This album featured 13 solo tracks and a collaboration with Kaitlin Butts.
