Abdu Huss, known as KhakiKid, grew up in Dublin as the middle child in a working-class household, developing an early awareness of his identity as an Irish-Libyan outsider. His musical journey began at 12, influenced by UK grime artists like Chip and Skepta, and US rap icons such as 50 Cent and Eminem, which cultivated his interest in lyricism and technical skill. During his teenage years, the rise of platforms like Tumblr and SoundCloud exposed him to boundary-pushing artists such as XXXTENTACION, Tyler, the Creator, and Mac Miller, who inspired him to experiment with genres and redefine hip-hop’s possibilities. After refining his writing with friends, he briefly pursued basketball, earning a scholarship opportunity in Los Angeles. However, recognizing the intense competition, he returned to Dublin with a renewed focus on music.

Upon his return to Dublin, KhakiKid began independently developing his sound by sharing music online and investing in affordable recording equipment. His debut single, “Late” (2021), introduced a jazz-infused hip-hop style, drawing inspiration from artists like Anderson .Paak and Mac Miller. Subsequent releases, including “Shlumped Up” and “Cozy,” expanded his sonic palette. This led to his debut EP, _Sports & Tattoos_, a collection that blended introspection with lighthearted narratives. A pivotal moment in his career involved embracing his natural Irish accent in his music, influenced by groups like Kneecap. This change introduced authenticity, humor, and distinct character to his delivery, further solidifying his artistic identity.

On later projects such as _san bebé_ and _Moanbag_, KhakiKid continued to explore genre fusion, incorporating elements of alt-rap, rock, house, and electronica. These works delved into themes of relationships, heartbreak, and self-reflection. Tracks like “Boy Racer” and “Date Nite” highlighted his developing melodic abilities and confident songwriting. His most recent project, _Girl Bites Dog_, represents a fully realized artistic statement, combining alt-rap with punk energy to convey youthful angst and emotional complexity. This album balances wit with vulnerability, documenting the intricacies of relationships while maintaining his commitment to sonic experimentation. With a growing audience, KhakiKid continues to establish a distinctive career path characterized by honesty, versatility, and a strong sense of personal identity.
