About

Robyn Rihanna Fenty, born on February 20, 1988, in Bridgetown, St. Michael, Barbados to Monica Braithwaite, an accountant, and Ronald Fenty, a warehouse supervisor. Her early life on the island saw her attending Combermere, a prominent school. She participated in beauty pageants and impressed many with her musical talent, performing Mariah Carey’s “Hero” at a school talent show. A pivotal moment occurred when she was introduced to New York producer Evan Rodgers. This introduction led to an audition with Jay-Z, who was then CEO of Def Jam Records, at just 16 years old. Jay-Z recognized her potential, and she was signed to Def Jam, marking the beginning of her professional career.

Her debut album, “Music of the Sun,” released in August 2005, reached number 10 on the Billboard 200. This was soon followed by “A Girl Like Me” in 2006, which peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and became her first RIAA-certified double platinum album. Her musical evolution continued with “Good Girl Gone Bad” in 2007, an album that shifted her image from an innocent girl-next-door to a more mature and rebellious artist, embracing dance-pop and R&B. This album achieved significant commercial and critical success, including a Grammy Award and becoming her best-selling album worldwide. Her artistic journey has been characterized by continuous reinvention across various music genres, influencing many artists.

Beyond music, Rihanna has made significant strides in business and philanthropy. She founded the non-profit Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012, focusing on education and emergency response. Her entrepreneurial ventures include the cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty, launched in 2017, and the fashion brand Fenty under LVMH in 2019, making her the first Black woman to lead a luxury brand for the group. She also launched the inclusive lingerie brand Savage X Fenty in 2018, followed by Fenty Skin in 2020 and Fenty Hair in 2024. These businesses have contributed to her becoming one of the wealthiest musicians and the first female musician to achieve billionaire status.
