Gang of Youths released their critically acclaimed debut studio album, ‘The Positions,’ in April 2015, which peaked at number five on the ARIA albums chart and garnered five ARIA Award nominations that same year. Formed in Sydney, Australia, in 2012, the band quickly gained traction with initial performances including a debut gig at Hibernian House on June 21, 2012, and early tracks like ‘A Sudden Light’ and ‘Strange Diseases’ receiving airplay on FBi Radio. Their debut single, ‘Evangelists,’ released on August 16, 2013, brought national attention through Triple J’s Unearthed segment. The album’s single ‘Magnolia’ reached number 21 in the Triple J Hottest 100, 2015, and was certified platinum in 2018.
In 2018, Gang of Youths made their US television debut on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ and achieved the distinction of being the first artists to perform on ‘MTV Unplugged’ Australia. Their ‘Say Yes to Life Tour’ across Australia that same year broke multiple venue records by selling out 20 shows. The band saw a lineup change in 2019 with the departure of Joji Malani, who was replaced by Tom Hobden. Their highly anticipated third album, ‘Angel in Realtime,’ released in 2022, continued their chart-topping trajectory by debuting at number one in Australia and reaching an impressive number 10 in the United Kingdom.
‘Angel in Realtime’ further solidified their critical acclaim by winning Album of the Year at the 2022 J Awards, cementing Gang of Youths’ position as an internationally recognized and award-winning alternative rock force.
