Giant Rooks, a dynamic indie rock band hailing from Hamm, Germany, has made significant strides in the music industry since their formation in 2014. Founded by cousins Frederik Rabe and Finn Schwieters, alongside pianist Jonathan Wischniowski, the band quickly expanded to include bassist Luca Göttner and drummer Finn Thomas. Their early work culminated in the release of their self-produced EP, “The Times Are Bursting The Lines,” in 2015, which laid the groundwork for their burgeoning career.
The band’s 2017 EP, “New Estate,” garnered critical acclaim and showcased their evolving sound, leading to a record deal with Irrsinn Tonträger, a Universal Music label. Their 2019 EP, “Wild Stare,” marked a significant milestone, with its title track becoming a top 20 radio hit in Italy and the EP amassing over 50 million streams on Spotify. This success solidified their reputation as a rising force in the indie music scene.
In 2020, Giant Rooks released their highly anticipated debut album, “Rookery,” which featured the single “All We Are.” The album was well-received, and the band embarked on a North American tour with fellow German act Milky Chance in 2021, further expanding their international presence. Their collaboration on a cover of Suzanne Vega’s “Tom’s Diner” with AnnenMayKantereit marked their first UK chart entry, reaching number 63 in March 2022.
In 2023, Giant Rooks continued to build on their momentum by opening for English singer-songwriter Louis Tomlinson during the North American leg of his Faith in the Future World Tour. Their artistry, influenced by iconic musicians like Bob Dylan and Bon Iver, reflects a commitment to creating impactful music that resonates with audiences worldwide. With a growing discography and a dedicated fanbase, Giant Rooks is poised for even greater achievements in the years to come.
