About

Garrett Charles Nash, known as Gnash, was born on June 16, 1993, in Los Angeles, California. His father is a musician, and his mother is a director and producer. He began his musical journey by DJing at the age of 13 and later transitioned into producing cover songs after college. Gnash gained significant recognition with his debut extended play (EP), “U,” released in March 2015 on SoundCloud. This was followed by the “Me” EP in December 2015, and “Us” in March 2017. These early EPs, recorded in his garage, explored themes related to a breakup, finding oneself, and new relationships, resonating with a wide audience. He produces and writes his music from his garage, focusing on raw, honest lyrics over complex production.

His breakthrough single, “I Hate U, I Love U,” featuring Olivia O’Brien, emerged from these garage sessions. The track achieved commercial success, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching number one in Australia. This song became 6x RIAA platinum certified, marking a significant milestone in his career. In October 2017, Gnash was featured on MAX’s song “Lights Down Low,” which reached number twenty on the Billboard Hot 100, further solidifying his presence in the music industry. His debut studio album, “We,” released in January 2019, also included the hit single “I Hate U, I Love U.” This album further showcased his distinctive style of songwriting, focusing on emotional honesty and connection with his listeners.

In 2023, Gnash released his second full-length project, “The Art of Letting Go,” which was preceded by a series of EPs: “One” (2022), “Two” (2022), “Three” (2022), “Four” (2023), and “Five” (2023). This consistent output demonstrates his ongoing musical exploration and commitment to sharing his personal experiences through his music. He has collaborated with artists such as Annika Wells on “granola bars,” Mark Diamond on “Glass on the Shelf,” and Lost Boy on “Insecure.” Gnash has also toured extensively, including “The U, Me & Us Tour” (2016–2017), “The Sleepover Tour” (2017), “The Young Renegades Tour: Part II” (2018), and “The Broken Hearts Club Tour” (2019). His work aims to create a supportive community, or “support group,” for his listeners, encouraging open discussions about feelings and mental well-being.
