About

Grant Richard Kwiecinski, born on May 31, 1990, in Southfield, Michigan, began his musical journey playing the alto saxophone and piano in elementary school. He later attended Michigan State University, where he frequently DJ’d parties and played shows in the East Lansing area. Kwiecinski eventually left college to pursue a music career, releasing his debut album, “End of the World Party,” for free in 2011. This release garnered him initial popularity, leading to opportunities to support established artists like Pretty Lights, Gramatik, and Big Gigantic on their tours, and eventually launching his own headlining tours. He established All Good Records (formerly Liberated Music) to promote his music and that of other electro artists.

Over his career, GRiZ has released eight studio albums, including “Mad Liberation” (2012), “Rebel Era” (2013), “Say It Loud” (2015), “Good Will Prevail” (2016), “Ride Waves” (2019), “Rainbow Brain” (2021), and “Ouroboros” (2023). His album “Good Will Prevail” marked his first appearance on the Billboard 200 chart. He has performed at numerous festivals across the U.S. and Canada, such as Summer Camp, Electric Zoo, Electric Forest, Hard Los Angeles, TomorrowWorld, North Coast Festival, Decadence, SnowBall, Lollapalooza, and Shambhala. GRiZ is also known for his annual “12 Days of Grizmas” event, which raises funds and awareness for non-profit organizations, notably raising over $30,000 for Little Kids Rock in 2015 and earning him and his team the ‘Spirit of Detroit’ award.

GRiZ’s music is characterized by his self-described “future funk” sound, incorporating his live saxophone improvisation, guitar, and vocals into his electronic compositions. His live performances often feature a 15-piece GRiZ Live Band, and he has consistently sold out Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre for four consecutive years. Beyond music, GRiZ’s work has been recognized in other areas; in 2015, a cannabis strain named GRiZ Kush, developed in collaboration with Native Roots Apothecary, won the People’s Choice Flower category at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Denver, Colorado.
