Hiatus Kaiyote is an Australian jazz/funk band recognized for its genre-defying sound and critical acclaim, garnering international attention and multiple Grammy nominations. After releasing their independently debuted album, Tawk Tomahawk, in April 2012, Hiatus Kaiyote quickly established a unique musical identity characterized by elements of jazz, funk, neo-soul, and electronic music. The Australian quartet, comprised of singer/guitarist Nai Palm, bassist Paul Bender, keyboardist Simon Mavin, and drummer Perrin Moss, rapidly garnered significant international attention from influential figures including Erykah Badu, Questlove, and Prince, who publicly endorsed their music. This early critical recognition culminated in the band being named Breakthrough Artists of the Year at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Music Awards in London in 2013.
