High On Fire

Initiating a formidable presence in the metal music genre, High On Fire released their three-song EP in 1999, followed by their debut full-length album, ‘The Art of Self Defense,’ on March 7, 2000, through Man’s Ruin Records. The album was re-released in 2001 by Tee Pee Records. Co-founded by guitarist and vocalist Matt Pike, known for his work with the band Sleep, alongside drummer Des Kensel and bassist George Rice, the band rapidly established its distinct sound. High on Fire further solidified its trajectory by signing with Relapse Records in 2001, leading to the release of ‘Surrounded by Thieves’ on May 28, 2002.

High on Fire significantly expanded its reach through participation in major tours, such as Gigantour in 2008, where they shared stages with renowned acts like Opeth and Mastodon. A new recording deal with Koch Records in 2008 paved the way for their fifth album, ‘Snakes for the Divine,’ released in 2010. That same year, the band’s work was featured on the soundtrack for Namco Bandai Games’ Splatterhouse. Maintaining a steady momentum of acclaimed releases, High on Fire delivered ‘De Vermis Mysteriis’ in 2012, an album lauded by critics for its strong rebound and career-high quality.

Their latest offering, the highly anticipated ninth studio album, ‘Cometh the Storm,’ was released on April 19, 2024. High on Fire remains an active force, consistently delivering powerful musical output and engaging in extensive touring across North America and Europe, upholding their reputation as a significant power in the genre.
