Hop Along is an acclaimed American indie rock band hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, originally formed as a solo project by Frances Quinlan in 2004 under the name Hop Along, Queen Ansleis. Quinlan’s early work showcased her unique acoustic freak folk style, culminating in the release of her debut album, Freshman Year, in 2005. This initial foray into music laid the groundwork for her evolution as a songwriter and performer, as she sought to create a more dynamic sound that would eventually lead to the formation of a full band.
In 2009, the project transformed into a trio with the addition of drummer Mark Quinlan and bassist Tyler Long, prompting a name change to simply Hop Along. The band quickly gained recognition with their EP Wretches and their critically acclaimed full-length album Get Disowned in 2012. Produced by Joe Reinhart, the album was celebrated in the independent music scene, marking a significant milestone in their career and establishing them as a formidable force in indie rock.
Hop Along continued to build on their success with the release of Painted Shut in 2015, which further solidified their reputation. The band toured extensively, sharing stages with notable acts like Modest Mouse and The War On Drugs, showcasing their energetic performances and unique sound that blends elements of punk, folk, and emo.
Their latest album, Bark Your Head Off, Dog, released in 2018, received widespread acclaim for its lyrical depth and musical innovation. With a collaborative songwriting process and a commitment to exploring profound themes, Hop Along has carved out a distinctive niche in the indie rock landscape, earning praise from critics and fans alike.
