Imagination ft. Errol Kennedy

Errol Kennedy was born on June 9, 1953, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. From a young age, he developed an interest in drumming, learning the instrument through organizations such as the Boys’ Brigade and Air Training Corps. Before gaining widespread recognition, Kennedy was involved in the London-based soul-funk scene, contributing to bands such as TFA, TFB (later known as Central Line), and Midnight Express. These early experiences in various musical groups laid the foundation for his future career in the music industry.

In early 1981, Kennedy co-founded Imagination with Leee John and Ashley Ingram. The trio quickly achieved commercial success following the release of their debut single, “Body Talk,” in April 1981, which reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart and sold 250,000 copies. This was followed by other notable hits like “In and Out of Love” and “Flashback,” both peaking at number 16 the same year. Their most successful single, “Just an Illusion,” released in March 1982, peaked at number two and was later used as the end title song for the 1986 film F/X. Imagination frequently appeared on television programs such as “Top of the Pops,” known for their distinct visual style.

After the original Imagination disbanded in 1992, Errol Kennedy continued his musical career as a musician and producer. He worked with prominent artists such as Hugh Masekela, contributing to the soundtrack for the film “Soweto.” Throughout the 1990s, he toured and produced with various bands including Odyssey, Shalamar, Rose Royce, and Jamiroquai. Since 2009, Kennedy has performed live with his band ImagiNation feat. Errol Kennedy, touring the UK and performing at events across Europe. In 2013, he released a re-production of “Just an Illusion” featuring T’Mar for the band’s 30th anniversary, followed by the track “You Can Be (All You Want to Be)” in 2016, which is featured on his compilation album “Greatest Hits (Live).” Kennedy has also broadened his creative endeavors as the author of the “Flying Machines and Their Heroes” series.
