Mahone cited Justin Bieber as an early inspiration, notably covering Bieber’s “Mistletoe” in October 2011. His early independent releases included “11:11” on iTunes in February 2012, which reached number 19 on the US Heatseekers Songs chart and sold 100,000 digital downloads. His debut single, “Say Somethin’,” was released in June 2012 and peaked at number 19 on the US Pop Airplay chart.
