Jane Monheit is an American jazz and traditional pop singer known for her interpretations of the Great American Songbook and collaborations with notable jazz musicians. After being named runner-up in the prestigious vocal competition at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz in 1998, Jane Monheit solidified her musical foundation, graduating from the Manhattan School of Music in 1999. She swiftly launched her recording career at the age of 22 with her debut album, ‘Never Never Land’, released in 2000 through N-Coded Music. The album, which featured her captivating interpretations of the Great American Songbook, immediately garnered critical acclaim and established her as a distinctive, sophisticated voice in the jazz and traditional pop landscape.
She maintains a consistent touring presence, frequently performing alongside her longtime trio, comprising pianist Michael Kanan, bassist Neal Miner, and drummer Rick Montalbano. Demonstrating entrepreneurial vision and artistic independence, Monheit founded her own label, Emerald City Records, in 2016. The same year, she released ‘The Songbook Sessions: Ella Fitzgerald’ through her new imprint, a critically celebrated album dedicated to the iconic vocalist. This release not only showcased her masterful interpretations of jazz standards but also provided greater creative control over her artistic projects.
