John Grant

John Grant’s career launched as the lead singer, pianist, and primary songwriter of the Denver-based alternative rock band The Czars, which he co-founded in 1994. The band released six studio albums between 1994 and 2006, achieving significant critical success throughout their tenure. After The Czars disbanded in 2006, Grant embarked on a solo career that began in 2010 with the critically acclaimed debut album ‘Queen of Denmark,’ produced with the Texan folk rock group Midlake. The album was widely celebrated, earning the prestigious Album of the Year award from Mojo magazine in 2010.

He also formed the side project Creep Show in 2018 and, in 2021, released the politically charged single ‘The Only Baby.’ His connection to Iceland deepened as he became an Icelandic citizen in 2022, a move that has significantly influenced his musical direction. In 2022, Grant recorded ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’ for the theme of the critically acclaimed series ‘Inside Man.’ His highly anticipated seventh solo album, ‘The Art of the Lie,’ was released in 2024, continuing his tradition of bold artistic statements. The same year saw him collaborate with Big Special on the track ‘Stay Down, Lazarus.’ Looking ahead, John Grant is set to collaborate on a ballet adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s renowned novel ‘A Single Man’ in 2025, further expanding his artistic reach across diverse mediums.
