Kaylee Golding — self-styled “Ya Favourite Gyal From Brum” — is a DJ, radio presenter and podcast host who moves easily between late‑night mixes and weekday radio rigour. Born in Birmingham of Jamaican and White British heritage and now based in West London, she quietly upended expectations in April 2023 when she began hosting BBC Radio 1Xtra’s weekday show (1pm–4pm) — the first regular 1Xtra weekday show broadcast from outside London. It was a small revolution. Big ripple.
Her path wasn’t tidy. Student radio led to awards (Best Specialist, 2018 and 2019; Gold & Silver for Best Interview in 2019), which led to covers and guest mixes across Capital Xtra, Rinse FM, BBC Radio 1 early‑breakfast and KISS Fresh. She launched the On Your Gaydar podcast in 2020, helped spearhead the Radio Silence movement and has represented LGBTQ+ voices on Radio Academy panels. That’s when things changed.
Kaylee DJs for brands and festivals — Music Week Awards (after‑party DJ and 2024 set), Wingstop collaborations, and club dates across the UK and Europe — and she founded Hot Girl Brunch, a community project that’s part party, part platform. She’s interviewed Krept & Konan, Afro B, Young T & Bugsey and Tion Wayne, and worked alongside artists and partners from Stormzy and Digga D to Cat Burns, ArrDee, TikTok and Sound on Global. Nominated for Best Presenter at the UK Entertainment Awards in 2021 and selected as Radio 1’s Christmas presenter, she still champions Birmingham’s creative scene first and loud. She’s disciplined, yes — but also messy, curious, and stubbornly human.
