Kc & The Sunshine Band

KC and the Sunshine Band is an American disco and funk music group celebrated for its significant contributions to the genre, producing numerous chart-topping hits that defined an era. They continue to perform and engage audiences globally. After co-writing and producing George McCrae’s ‘Rock Your Baby,’ a song that became a number-one hit in 51 countries in mid-1974 and featured Jerome Smith on guitar, KC and the Sunshine Band continued to build on their foundational success. The group, fronted by Harry Wayne Casey (KC), first achieved chart recognition with their singles ‘Blow Your Whistle’ in September 1973 and ‘Sound Your Funky Horn’ in February 1974, both performing well on the U.S.

R&B chart. Their single ‘Queen of Clubs’ further expanded their international reach, peaking at number 7 in the UK and leading to a tour in 1975. The band’s self-titled second album in 1975 delivered their first major U.S. hits, with ‘Get Down Tonight’ topping the R&B chart in April and the Billboard Hot 100 in August, followed by ‘That’s the Way (I Like It)’ which also reached number one in November 1975.

They made a memorable appearance in the 2003 remake of the film The In-Laws, further cementing their place in popular culture. On July 6, 2013, KC and the Sunshine Band received a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. Demonstrating their lasting influence, the KC and the Sunshine Band Musical, Who Do Ya Love?, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on July 1, 2024. The group continues to perform globally, engaging audiences with their celebrated catalog of disco and funk hits.
