Kelleigh Carlyle Bannen was born on February 18, 1981, in Nashville, Tennessee. Her musical journey began at an early age, playing the violin at five years old. Bannen initially considered a career in law, even joining a vocal ensemble at the University of Virginia, which eventually reignited her passion for music. She later launched a jewelry business, which provided the flexibility needed to focus on songwriting. Her professional music career started around 2008, and she gained early recognition, being signed to EMI Records in 2012. That same year, she debuted her single “Sorry on the Rocks,” which charted on Hot Country Songs and received positive reviews. This was followed by “Famous” in 2014 and “You Are What You Love”.
Throughout her career, Bannen has released several albums, including “Radio Skies” (2008), “Cheap Sunglasses” (2016), “The Joneses” (2018), “Favorite Colors” (2019), and “Christmas Is Coming” (2020). While previously holding a major label recording contract, she later transitioned to independently releasing music. Her shift from a recording artist to a significant media personality is marked by her role as the host of Apple Music’s Beats 1 “Today’s Country” radio show. She also hosts “The Kelleigh Bannen Show” and the podcast “This Nashville Life,” further establishing her presence in the country music industry. Bannen made her national television debut on the Today show with Hoda and Jenna on October 29, 2019.
Beyond her musical and broadcasting endeavors, Bannen has been involved in advocacy. Following the passing of her brother in 2008, she embarked on a memory tour benefiting the Hazelden Foundation, which later merged to become the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. She has also advocated for organizations like AA and the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, demonstrating her commitment to social causes.
