Kittie is a Canadian heavy metal band recognized for its influential contributions to alternative metal, groove metal, and death metal genres. After releasing their debut album ‘Spit,’ Kittie quickly established themselves as an influential force in alternative, groove, and death metal. ‘Spit’ was initially launched on NG Records in November 1999, followed by a reissue through Artemis Records in January 2000. The album achieved significant commercial success, selling over 600,000 copies in the United States and earning a coveted Gold certification from the RIAA.
The band, formed in September 1996 with Fallon Bowman and Mercedes Lander, solidified their lineup by November 1997 with the addition of Morgan Lander and Tanya Candler, before signing with NG Records in 1999. Following the success of ‘Spit,’ Kittie released their sophomore album ‘Oracle’ in 2001, showcasing a heavier and more aggressive sound that integrated elements of death and thrash metal, with Morgan Lander handling all guitar tracks. The band continued to evolve, releasing ‘Until the End’ in 2004. Amidst member changes, including Talena Atfield in 2002, Jennifer Arroyo, and Lisa Marx in 2004, and challenges with Artemis Records, Kittie demonstrated their independent spirit by establishing their own label, X of Infamy, in 2007.
In 2024, Kittie released the single ‘Eyes Wide Open’ ahead of their highly anticipated seventh album, ‘Fire,’ which launched on June 21, 2024, signaling their powerful return to the heavy metal scene. The album has already garnered significant industry recognition, earning a nomination for a 2025 Juno Award, further cementing Kittie’s enduring impact and continued relevance in the global heavy metal landscape.
