Laura Izibor

Laura Izibor is an accomplished singer-songwriter, pianist, and producer, recognized for her contributions to music and her appearances in film and television. After winning the RTÉ 2FM Song Contest in 2002 with her song ‘Compatible,’ which garnered significant national airplay, Laura Izibor emerged as a prominent singer-songwriter, pianist, and producer. This early success led to a documentary by RTÉ highlighting her burgeoning talent. In 2004, Izibor signed with Jive Records, subsequently relocating to New York where she signed with Atlantic Records in 2006 under the mentorship of Steve Lunt.

Her exceptional talent was further recognized in 2006 when she received a nomination and won an award at the Meteor Music Awards, notably becoming the first unsigned artist to achieve this prestigious recognition. Izibor’s highly anticipated debut album, ‘Let the Truth Be Told,’ was released in May 2009, debuting at number two on the Irish Albums Chart. The album also charted on the U.S. Billboard 200 and the U.K.

‘Don’t Stay’ also reached number fifty-eight on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart that same year. Her growing profile earned her a ‘Best U.K Newcomer’ nomination at the 2009 MOBO Awards, followed by ‘Best Female Act’ and ‘Best Irish Pop Act’ nominations at the 2010 Meteor Awards. Beyond music, Izibor made significant inroads into film and television.

Izibor continued her film contributions, writing and performing songs for ‘A Little Bit of Heaven’ (2011) and ‘For Colored Girls’ (2010). In 2012, she released the EP ‘The Brooklyn Sessions Vol. 1,’ introducing new material to her discography. Her compositions have maintained relevance, with recent features in TV series ‘I May Destroy You’ (2020) and ‘Diggstown’ (2020).

Throughout her career, Izibor has also graced the stages of prominent music festivals, including Electric Picnic (2006, 2009), Music Ireland (2007), and Bestival (2009).
