Leila Crerar

Leila Crerar was born in Powys, Mid Wales, and pursued her passion for acting by training at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Her early career saw her establish a significant presence in Welsh television. She notably played Amanda for three years in the BBC Wales Drama Series ‘Belonging’ (2000-2002), under the direction of Euros Lyn and Rhys Powys. This role provided a foundation for her subsequent work in British television dramas.

Crerar’s career expanded to include various prominent television series, showcasing her versatility. She featured in ‘Doctors’ (2007-2016) across three episodes as Helen Haig, Jenna Truman, and Miv Haines, and appeared in ‘Casualty’ (2012-2017) as both Pat Cutler and Stella Valentine over two episodes. A significant milestone was her role as Chrissie in the acclaimed film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (2018). Her television credits also include Joyce in ‘Mr Selfridge’ (2016) for six episodes, Hannah in ‘EastEnders’ (2012) for four episodes, and a role in ‘Torchwood: Miracle Day’ (2011). She also played the lead role of Gwen in the feature film ‘Two Way Journey’ and appeared as Irate Mother in the TV mini-series ‘Him’ (2016).

Beyond screen work, Crerar has a substantial background in theatre. She has performed in leading roles at various prestigious venues including the National Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, The Lyric Hammersmith, The Arcola, and Hackney Empire. Her stage performances include Sylvia in Steven Berkoff’s ‘Sit and Shiver’, Cressida in Terry Hands’ production of ‘Troilus and Cressida’, Emma in Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’, and Emilia in Frantic Assembly’s award-winning ‘Othello’. She also played Portia in ‘Merchant of Venice’ (2012) and Nora in ‘A Doll’s House’. Crerar is a co-founder of the physical theatre company The Likes Of Us and an active member of The Factory Theatre Company and Baz Productions, further demonstrating her commitment to collaborative and innovative theatrical work. Her commitment to storytelling is evident through her consistent engagement in both mainstream and independent projects across different mediums.
