Lemaitre, an indie electronic duo originating from Oslo, Norway, was formed on June 20, 2010, by Ketil Jansen and Ulrik Denizou Lund. The duo, now based in Los Angeles, California, quickly gained recognition for their distinct sound. Their early work included tracks like “Momentum” and “Primeval Atom,” which preceded their debut EP, “The Friendly Sound.” A notable turning point occurred with the release of their “Relativity Series” of EPs, praised for their use of original samples. “Relativity 2,” released in May 2012, topped Canadian and US iTunes electronic album charts, and achieved high rankings in Switzerland, Australia, and France.
In January 2014, Lemaitre signed with Astralwerks Records, a label known for artists such as Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers, who were listed as inspirations for the duo. This partnership led to collaboration opportunities, including Jansen and Lund being credited on Porter Robinson’s song “Polygon Dust” from his album “Worlds.” In 2016, they released their seventh EP, “1749,” named after their Los Angeles home and studio, which was previously owned by Dr. Dre. The duo subsequently embarked on a European tour, and their music gained broader exposure through placements in media, including Apple’s “Designed Together” advertisement for the iPhone 5c, Facebook’s “Friends’ Day” feature, a Google Pixel phone advertisement, and the Norwegian teen drama “Skam.
